Summary Section Update

Posted by Craig in Untagged

Hey guys!

I'm sure most of you would have seen the update on the summary section.  This basically was because the previous assortment was prone to duplication.  I've set it up all differently now, to what I think is a much better organised collection.

All feedback is greatly welcomed, thanks!

General seo techniques

Posted by vipey in Untagged

In today's internet, where the measure of a site's worth is largely based on its ranking in major search engines and where the value of real estate on your site depends on things such as Google Page Rank and Alexa rankings, it comes as no surprise that the webmasters spend a lot of time, and often money, on making their site as appealing to search engines as possible, without cutting its appeal to people. The ability to encourage search engine bots to crawl your site efficiently and place it high in results is perhaps more important than the maintenance of the content of the site itself simple because; what's the point of updating a poorly optimized site every day if no one finds it to appreciate it? That said, we'll now go into simple technique you need to know to do your own basic optimizing.

First, right of the bat, be careful with Flash. Flash animations are pretty and visually appealing but search engine bots cannot read them so if your site is designed with most of its content in flash you may have a problem. What I recommend is using flash but ensuring that your links are represented outside of the flash code so the bots can find them.

Also, use good keywords. Remember that the results are compiled by a computer that follows an algorithm to determine the value of your site to users based on a number of factors including the keywords it finds on your site. As such, if your site is about music, try to use ‘music' as well as other keywords such as ‘rock' if it's about rock music often on your site. This will earn your site a higher listing if someone searches for those keywords.

Page Rank is the next important asset to a webmaster. This little number can make the difference between selling a banner ad on your site for a dollar per month or charging hundreds. More noticeable, this number wields the greatest influence over where your site falls in search results. To use this to your advantage, you need to know that Google uses the amount and quality of links to your site from other sites to determine your rank.

The simple option is to set up some reciprocal links with other webmasters. This means that each of you links to the others site on your page. This has minimal effect however.

A much more effective way is 3-way-linking, in which 3 webmasters link to each other in a chain reaction that ensures that no two websites link back to each other. Articles are available to explain this in more detail.
All in all, the procedures shown here can and will make a big difference to your site if done correctly. Alternatively you could hire a search engine optimization professional to do it for you.

How to Turn off the Aggression Switch in an Aggressors Brain

Posted by Craig in social interactionself improvementpsychologymost usefullearning

Most primates shift their gaze to show submission. If an ape is going to display aggression or is likely to attack, it will lock eyes onto its victim. To avoid being attacked, the victim will look away and try to make it appear smaller.

Scientific evidence shows that submission behaviour appears to be hardwired into primate brains for survival reasons. Under attack, we make ourselves appear smaller by hunching our shoulders, pulling our arms in close to the body, pressing our knees together and locking our ankles under a chair, dropping our chin to the chest to protect the throat and averting our gaze by looking away. These gestures activate an 'off switch' in the brain of the aggressor and the attack can be avoided.

Making yourself appear smaller turns off the aggression switch in an aggressor's brain.

This is an ideal position to take if you are being reprimanded by a superior when you actually deserve the reprimand, but it would be detrimental against a random street attack. From a person who is walking past a group of possible assailants in the street it would signal fear and this can contribute to inciting an attack. If you walk upright with larger movements, swinging your arms and legs and having your front open, you will project that you could defend yourself if necessary and so are less likely to be attacked.
