9 Fresher's Week Tips, Student Union and Freshers Ball

Fresher’s week is approaching for many new students venturing into university. So I thought I’d take some time to write an article on fresher’s week and give you a bunch of tips to make it even better for you.

At this point in time you’ve probably had a letter from the student union at whichever university you will be attending.  This should give you all the information you need on fresher’s week, as well as other useful information such as prices. So to add to what you already know I’d like to give you a list of 9 fresher’s week tips I think will be very useful.

Fresher's Week Tips -

1. Sign-up for the Student Union

This is a great first tip, because a lot of people forget or overlook the advantages of signing up for the student union. When you sign up, you gain access to a lot of help from a vast collection of students, called the union. You also get cool discounts and the use of student union services. So it’s in your best interest to sign up as soon as you get there!

2. Fresher’s Fair – Take Everything That’s Free!

That’s right, take it all! Even if you don’t need it just yet, since you never know when you may need one of those free condoms, or a free roll of toilet paper. You may think you’re rich when you first start because you’ve had your first payment of the student loan, but remember how long it has to last you. So take all the free things and just say “thank you!

3. Setup a Student Account With a Bank

Doing this gives you some really interesting benefits, such as a £3000 overdraft with 0% interest. You never know when you may need extra cash, so get it while you can! Signing up for a student bank account is all you will need. Don’t go and sign up for individual shop cards, since their more trouble than their worth.

4. Go For a Wonder

The place is new, the people are new. So why not get together and go for a wonder, go explore your new living environment with your new found friends, or just go to a pub and get drunk! Either way, get out of the flats and see what your new town/city has to offer. Not only does it improve relationships with new friends, but it also gives you a better insight to your new little world!

5. Get Yourself a Doctor

You never know when you need these valuable guys, especially now you’re away from your regular doctor. If you don’t have a clue how to go about finding and signing up for a new doctor, you’ll find useful information at the student union, giving you another reason to sign up with them!

6. Sign-up For Free Choice Modules Early

Whether you want to get a taste of another subject, or boost your marks with extra modules you know you’re good at. Don’t leave it to late, sign up for them so they’re out of the way. If you forget to sign up or leave it too late, you may be missing out on all the fun!

7. Volunteer for Something

Yet again, something the student union will have available for you. There is where you get to volunteer for something in your new local community. This is a great way to meet new people, and to do something positive.

8. Go Get Yourself a 16~25 Railcard

This card saves you a 1/3 off all rail journeys, so something you should get if you’re far away from home. Go to www.16-25railcard.co.uk to get yourself one.

9. Finally, Go To The Fresher’s Ball

The highlight of the entire fresher’s festivities is the ball. Here you will defiantly have a great time with your new friends. Foam parties? Maybe! It all depends what your student union has chosen. Whatever is planned, you will have an amazing time and you defiantly will not forget it.
